If you do what is good, good things will happen. If you do what is bad, bad things will happen. It’s a simple truth that can be really hard for us to wrap our heads around! Our actions always have consequences that affect not only ourselves but also those around us. If you believe in Jesus, you won’t have to suffer the eternal consequences of your sin. Though you’ll still have to deal with the earthly consequences. Our good deeds cannot get us into heaven, but the Bible says that God will reward you for every good thing you’ve ever done! You reap what you sow.

One thing that makes this concept difficult to understand is when we think that we can decide what’s right and wrong for ourselves. We think we’re sowing “good seeds” because we want them to be good, but if it goes against what God says is right and wrong it will always bear bad fruit. Another thing that makes it tricky to understand is how long it can sometimes take to see the fruit of our (actions whether they are good or bad). But rest assured, you will always reap what you sow.

“You Reap What You Sow” Bible Verses:

  • Genesis 26:12 | Sowing is planting.
  • Galatians 6:9 | If you do good, good things happen.
  • James 5:7 | Harvest can be a long time coming.
  • Ephesians 2:8-9 | Our goodness cannot get us into heaven.
  • John 3:16 | Jesus gets us to heaven.
  • Ephesians 6:8 | God will reward you for every good thing you do.
  • Galatians 6:7 | You reap what you sow.

“You Reap What You Sow” Family Time Questions:

• What does “you reap what you sow” mean?

• How can we avoid the eternal consequences of our sin?

• Are there still earthly consequences for sin?

• Why can bad things still happen to people who do what is right?

• When will God make all things right?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for saving me from my sins. Please help me to do what is right so that I can reap a good harvest. In Jesus’ name Amen.
