The question, “Why does God let bad things happen?” is probably one of the most difficult questions we could ever ask. And it’s not that it’s a difficult question because it has a difficult answer, it’s difficult because of all of the pain that can be wrapped up in that question. The simple answer to the question is that God gave mankind a choice to live His way or our own way. And when Adam and Eve sinned, sin and death entered the world. and with them came violence, disaster, disease, and all bad things. But things become more difficult when we’re not asking “Why do bad things happen in the world?” but, “Why did this bad thing happen to me?” We live in a world where bad things happen, but one day God will make all things new. And He works all things (even the very bad things) together for the good of those who love Him.

“Why Does God Let Bad Things Happen?” Bible Verses:

  • Romans 5:12 | Bad things came into the world through sin.
  • Romans 3:23 | Everyone has sinned.
  • 1 Peter 1:18-19 | Jesus paid sin’s penalty.
  • Romans 8:28 | In ALL things God works good for those who love Him.
  • Revelation 21:5 | Jesus is making all things new.

“Why Does God Let Bad Things Happen?” Family Time Questions:

  • Why do bad things happen in this world?
  • What does God do with the bad things in our life?
  • What are some examples of good things God has brought out of bad things?
  • How soon will we know what good things God will bring from the bad?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your love and your plan for me. Help me to put my trust in you, especially when times are hard. Thank you for working all things together for the good of those who love you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
