If Jesus will always forgive you, and you have eternal life if you believe in Him, why be good? Why not just do whatever you want if the eternal punishment for your sins has already been paid for?

One reason we should be good is because it’s best for us and those around us. The eternal punishment for your sin is paid for if you believe in Jesus, but sin still has earthly consequences that we can avoid by doing what is right instead of what’s wrong. Another reason to be good is simply because it’s the right thing to do! Jesus died for us, let’s thank Him with our lives. Also, as Christians, we represent Christ to the world. If people want to know what Jesus is like, they will look to see what YOU are like. It’s a huge responsibility to be an ambassador for Christ, so let’s do our best to live up to that calling. God doesn’t want to punish us, He wants to SAVE us! So let’s be good, not because we’re scared of being punished, but because it’s best for us and for the world.

“Why Be Good?” Bible Verses:

  • Romans 3:23 | We have all sinned.
  • Romans 6:23 | Sin leads to forever death.
  • John 3:16 | Jesus paid our penalty so we can live forever with God.
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 | God knows what’s best for us.
  • John 14:15 | We follow God’s will as our response to Him.
  • Matthew 5:16 | We obey God so others can see what He’s like.
  • 1 Corinthians 10:31 | Let’s honor God with our lives.

Why Be Good?” Family Time Questions:

  • Why does God make rules for us?
  • What do we need to do to avoid the eternal punishment for our sins?
  • Why should we be good?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for loving me and for dying for my sins. Please help me to do what is right. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
