God is Three in One: Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit. We call that the Trinity. Three Persons in One God. There are lots of analogies that people use to try to explain it, but they don’t really work. There’s nothing and no one like our God!

In my Armor of God series, I talked about how the Armor of God can help us in our fight against the spiritual forces

Here are some analogies and why they don’t work:

1. An Egg (Shell, white, and yolk, in one egg). This doesn’t work because all three Persons of the Trinity are equal, unlike the parts of an egg.

2. Shamrock (Each leaf is one equal part of one clover). This doesn’t work because each Person of the Trinity is wholly God (100% God), not partially God.

3. Different roles (I’m a son and a brother and a student, all in one Douglas). This doesn’t work because God isn’t different persons to different people. And that example is not really three different persons, just different roles that we play, and we all (including God) play TONS of different roles.

4. The Sun (A star, the light from the star, and the heat from the star). This doesn’t work because all three Persons of God have always been. None of them were created by another.

Bible Verses:

  • Deuteronomy 6:4 & Mark 12:29 | The Lord is one.
  • John 10:30 | Jesus and the Father are one.
  • 2 Corinthians 3:17 | The Lord is the Spirit.
  • John 14:15-17 | The Father sends the Spirit to those who believe in the Son.
  • Matthew 28:19 | We are to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Family Time Questions:

Is there anything that’s just like the Trinity?

• Where can we find the best description of the Trinity?

• Where in the Bible is the word “Trinity” used?

• How do we know it’s just one God and not three Gods?

Prayer:

Dear God, You are incredible. Please help me to better understand You more and more every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
