What does it mean to be a Christian? Being a Christian is a lot more than just “following the rules” and going to church. In fact, you can do those things and be very far from God! A Christian is someone who believes in Jesus Christ as their savior and tries to follow close to Him. Being a Christian is about having faith in Jesus Christ!
There are many people who might call themselves a “Christian” for many different reasons. Some people might think they’re a Christian because their parents are, or because they go to church on Sundays, or because they try to follow all the rules. The truth is that those things are important, but they cannot save your soul and they aren’t what makes you a Christian. It’s only through faith in Jesus Christ that we can be saved, and it’s only through Him that we can really be obedient to God. If you are following Jesus Christ, seeking a relationship with Him, reading your Bible, praying to Him, and obeying Christ’s call for your life, all that other stuff will come naturally!

Bible Verses:

  • Romans 3:23 | Everyone sins.
  • Psalm 139:1-4 | God knows exactly who you are.
  • Romans 5:8 | Jesus died for us while we were sinners.
  • Ephesians 2:8 | Believing in Jesus is being a Christian.
  • Galatians 5:22-24 | The fruit of the Spirit comes out of faith in Jesus.

Family Time Questions:

Can you go to church and not be a Christian?

• What does it mean to be a Christian?

What happens if you follow Jesus?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for the incredible gift of Your Son, Jesus. Help me to follow close to you and to share the Good News with everyone you send my way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
