God wants us to rest. He set an example for us during the seven days of creation. God made the whole universe in six days, and on the seventh He rested. God didn’t rest because He was tired; He rested to set an example for us. It is very important to God that we rest. Douglas’ family observes the sabbath (God’s day of rest) on Sunday, the same day they have church. So every Sunday his family goes to church, and then when they come home they have a day of rest. They don’t do any chores or any homework, or anything that isn’t fun or restful. Douglas’ dad turns off his work phone, his mom makes their Sunday meals on Friday or Saturday and puts them in the fridge so they’ll be ready to eat, and they leave any dishes for Monday. The Bible talks specifically about the sabbath being on the seventh day of the week, and so many people observe the sabbath on Saturday. But Douglas is pretty sure that it’s more important to God that we take a day of rest than what day we take it on. For example, Douglas’ pastor observes the sabbath on Friday, because he has a lot of work to do on Sundays. So every Friday, his pastor takes the day off to rest and spend time with God. God loves you, and He knows what’s best for you, so let’s all do what we can to get the rest that God has planned for us.
