There are so many fun Easter traditions: Easter eggs, dressing up nice on Easter Sunday, candy, and all kinds of things. And traditions are OK so long as we don’t let them come between us and what’s really important. On Easter, we celebrate that Jesus is alive! And there’s nothing more worthy of celebration than that!

Our sin comes between us and God, and we have all sinned. Because of our sin we deserve to spend an eternity apart from God. But God loves the world (including YOU) so much that He sent His one and only Son, Jesus, to die for our sins so that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life instead of eternal death. Jesus never did anything wrong, but He chose to take the punishment that we deserved so that we could live forever with Him in heaven. He didn’t do this because we deserve it, we don’t. We deserve the punishment He took for us. But Jesus loves us so much that He died for us. And by rising from the grave He proved that He really is God’s Son and He really does have power over sin and death. Let’s celebrate the real meaning of Easter: Jesus’ death and resurrection!

Easter Bible Verses:

  • Matthew 20:18-19 | The plan
  • Mark 16:1-6 | He is risen!
  • Romans 6:8-11 | Jesus conquered death
  • John 14:1-3 | Jesus is preparing a place for us
  • 1 Peter 1:3 | Hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
  • 1 Corinthians 15:20 | The firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep

Easter Family Time Questions:

• What is it that we celebrate on Easter?

• Why is it so important that Jesus rose again from the dead?

• How do you accept the free gift of salvation?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you sending your Son Jesus to die for us. And thank you so much that He rose again on the third day! Help to us to remember what’s really important this Easter season. In Jesus name, Amen.
