On Easter, we often think of bunnies and eggs, but if there was any animal that really reminded Douglas of Easter, it would be a lamb! Did you know that Jesus is called the “Lamb of God”?

Jesus is actually called a TON of things in the Bible, some of which seem to be the opposite of a lamb, like, “Lion of Judah” and “Good Shepherd.” But “Lamb of God” is an important name for Jesus on Easter, because Jesus is sort of like our Passover Lamb. The Israelites celebrate a festival called Passover, and during that festival, they remember when God saved them from the Egyptians and the Angel of the Lord passed over the houses of the Israelites who had covered their doorposts with the blood of a perfect baby sheep. The blood of Jesus protects us from the eternal consequences of our sin just like the Passover lamb protected the Israelites from the wrath of God in Egypt. Bunnies and eggs are fine, but don’t forget about the “Lamb of God” this easter!

Bible Verses:

  • John 1:29 | Jesus is the Lamb of God.
  • Exodus 12:3-13 | The original Passover story of the Israelites in Egypt.
  • 1 Corinthians 5:7 | Jesus became our Passover lamb.
  • John 3:16 | God loved us so much that He sacrificed Jesus for us.
  • Ephesians 1:7 | Jesus’ blood brings us forgiveness.

Family Time Questions:

What are some of the names Jesus is called?

Why is He called the Lamb of God?

How can we be saved from the eternal penalty for our sins?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you so much for sending your son Jesus, the Lamb of God, to save us from our sins. Help me to remember all that you’ve done for me this Easter.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
