It’s sad when we can’t go to church, but it’s important to know that the thing that makes your church special is not the building itself. The Church, the REAL Church is the people, not the building. In the Old Testament, the Israelites were given instructions on how to build and maintain the Temple, a home for God where He would meet with His people. And the Israelites would gather at the temple to worship. So it can be easy to think that our church buildings are a modern version of the temple, but they aren’t. The bible says that, if you believe in Jesus Christ, YOU are God’s temple. The Church (Big “C”), is all Christians, and the Church is meant to be Jesus’ hands and feet, to share the love of Jesus with a lost and lonely world. Let’s be the Church God wants us to be!

“The Church Is the People” Bible Verses:

  • 1 Kings 8:10-11 | In the Old Testament, the Lord’s glory filled His temple in Jerusalem.
  • 2 Corinthians 6:16 | We, believers, are now the temple of the living God!
  • Hebrews 10:25 | God calls believers to meet together for encouragement.
  • Ephesians 2:10 | God created us to do good works.
  • 1 John 4:7 | We show His love by loving others.

“The Church Is the People” Family Time Questions:

  • Is the church building special? If so, what makes it special?
  • What do you need to do to be God’s home?
  • IF we are supposed to be Jesus’ hands and feet, what sorts of things should we, both as the Church and we as individuals, do to share the love of Jesus?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your presence. Help me take care of your temple, and to be your hands and feet. And please help us to be the Church that you want us to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
