It’s been a hard year. But we should be thankful even when times are tough, not just because we owe God our gratitude, but because thankfulness can be a very healing thing.

If this has been a hard Thanksgiving for you, then this is a very important Thanksgiving. Sometimes it’s easy to be grateful because of how good things have been. But sometimes it seems like all you can see is how bad things have been. It’s during those times that it’s most important for us to be thankful. Thinking of what we’re thankful for can help us to keep from being consumed by all of the bad things that happen in life. We owe God our gratitude, but more than that, our thankfulness can heal our hearts and help us to overcome.

“Thankfulness” Bible Verses:

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 | Be thankful even in hard times.
  • Philippians 4:8 | God calls us to think about the good.
  • John 3:16-17 | Good News — God sent Jesus to save us!
  • Romans 8:38-39 | Nothing can separate us from God’s love.
  • Psalm 107:1 | Give thanks to the Lord for He is good!

“Thankfulness” Family Time Questions:

What are some good things that have happened this year?

• How can being thankful help to heal your heart?

What are some things God has done for you?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your goodness to me. Help me to be thankful even when times are hard. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
