There are great examples of compassion everywhere, but God gave us the ultimate example when He sent his Son Jesus!

Douglas’ mom is a really good baker, and at Douglas’ school, they always have a bake sale with a prize for “Best Baker.” His mom has never won the prize, but Douglas knows that she really wants to. On their way to the bake sale, Douglas’ mom saw someone on the side of the road who needed help changing her tire. And even though she knew that she would get dirty changing that tire and that she would be late for the bake sale (meaning there was no way she could win), she still took the time and energy to help someone in need. This is a great example of compassion but God has given us an even better example to follow in sending His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. God saw our need and He did something about it. How can we show compassion to those around us?

“Compassion” Bible Verses:

  • John 3:16 | God’s compassion for us
  • Ephesians 4:32 | Follow God’s example
  • Colossians 3:12 | “clothe yourselves with compassion,”
  • 1 Peter 3:8 | God’s instructions

“Compassion” Family Time Questions:

• What is compassion?

• How can we be kind and compassionate to one another?

• What are some good things God has done for you?

• Why is it helpful to remember what God has done for us?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your incredible kindness and compassion towards us. Please help us to be kind and compassionate to one another. In Jesus’ name, amen.
