We need to walk after God and keep His commandments and obey His voice. The problem is that our hearts keep getting in the way. We might have a feeling or think we hear a voice that we “know” is God, when it’s really just our own imagination. Not every voice is God’s voice. And though the Bible is true, not every interpretation is true. You can twist Scripture to say pretty much whatever you want it to say. So how can we know that we are submitting to God’s will and not just going along with whatever we want? One trick is to ask yourself, “If God told me right now not to do this thing I want to do, or if He told me to do something I don’t want to do, would I submit to Him?” If the answer is “No,” that’s not good. And if the question makes you mad or makes you want to get through it as fast as possible, that might be telling you something to. We need to be willing to hold fast to God, even when His way isn’t our way. We need to submit to God.
Bible Verses:
- Deuteronomy 13:4 – Keep His commands and obey His voice
- James 4:7 – Submit to God
- Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord
- Jeremiah 17:9 – Our hearts can be deceitful
Family Time Questions:
- Is it possible to think you’re hearing God’s voice, but it’s not really His voice?
- Is it possible to misinterpret the Bible?
- What does it mean to submit to God?
Prayer:
“Dear God, thank You for being You. Please help us to keep Your commands and listen to Your voice. Please help us to submit to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
