It can be hard to stand up for your faith, and it’s especially hard to do it in a loving way. Instead of getting mad when people challenge you for believing in God, Just share the hope that you have in Jesus with love and kindness!

Douglas learned in Sunday school that he’s supposed to “give a defense for his faith,” but he wasn’t exactly sure what that means. He likes to watch football with his dad, and he knew that, in football, the defense is the guys who tackle the other guys. One day at school, there was a kid who was making fun of Douglas for believing in God. Douglas decided to “defend” his faith, so he tackled the kid…which was a bad idea. Douglas got in trouble with the school, and then he had to explain to his dad what happened. His dad told him that giving a defense for your faith has NOTHING to do with tackling people, but instead means giving a reason for the hope that we have in Jesus. We should always know why we believe what we believe, and be able to tell other people. Let’s all stand up for our faith, but do it in a loving way!

“Standing Up for Your Faith” Bible Verses:

  • 1 Peter 3:15 | Be prepared to give a defense for your faith
  • Ephesians 4:15 | Speak the truth in love
  • 2 Timothy 2:23-26 | Don’t be quarrelsome
  • 2 Corinthians 10:5 | We destroy every argument…

Standing Up for Your Faith” Family Time Questions:

  • What does it mean to give a defense for your faith?
  • Why is it so easy to get mad when people challenge our faith?
  • Why do you believe in Jesus?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your love for me. Please help me to stand up for my faith in a kind and loving way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
