“Silent Night” is a great Christmas hymn, but it has a lot of words that are hard to understand. Join Douglas as he explains some of the trickier words of this classic song and what they mean.
You’ll have to watch the video to see all of Douglas’ explanations, but here are a few of the difficult words and phrases in this song:
• “Round yon Virgin” – Means, “Around that Virgin (Mary). A virgin is someone who has never been with another person in the way that married people are meant to be.
• Quake – Shake, like an earthquake
• “Heavenly host” – A large group of angels
• Alleluia – Something that you say to praise God.
• “Radiant beams” – Radiant means really really bright, and beams means like a beam of light, like a flashlight.
• Redeeming – Saving, rescuing
• Thy – “Your”
This song helps us to praise God for sending us His Son, Jesus. And understanding the words helps us to praise Him even better!
