We live in a dark world. But God has called us to shine in the darkness! As Christians, we should make it a priority to take the love and Good News of Jesus Christ to those who need it most. God wants us to be “in the world” but not “of the world.”

If you turn on a flashlight outside, in the daytime, you often can’t even tell that it’s on. When we, as Christians, only ever spend time with other Christians, we aren’t really shining the light of Jesus Christ. It’s very important to be around other Christians, but if we never go out into the world, then we’ll only be sharing the love of Jesus with those who already know the love of Jesus. It’s very easy and comfortable to only interact with people who are just like you, but if we’re ever going to reach the world for Christ, then we’re going to need to actually go into the world!

“Shine in the Darkness” Bible Verses:

  • Romans 12:2 | We as Christians are to be “in the world,” but not “of the world.”
  • Ephesians 2:8 | We are saved by grace. It’s a free gift from God.
  • Matthew 28:18-20 | Jesus wants us to teach others about Jesus.
  • 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 | Be kind and love others.
  • Matthew 5:14-15 | Shine the light of Jesus into the darkness of the world.

“Shine in the Darkness” Family Time Questions:

What does it mean to be “in the world” but not “of the world”?

• Why is it important to be around other Christians?

What are some ways that you can show Jesus’ love to people living in darkness?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your goodness to me. Help me to share your love and to shine your light in this dark world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
