Instead of caring what the people around us think, we should care what God thinks! When we follow the crowd we either end up doing what is wrong or doing what is right for appearances only.

It’s not just that we should avoid seeking the approval of “bad” people, we should avoid seeking the approval of people in general and instead seek God’s approval. We should absolutely listen to our parents and teachers. Not because we want them to be proud of us, but because we want God to be proud of us! It’s easy to wear a mask for our family, friends, and everyone else around us. But God can see right through us! There’s no fooling God. If we learn what God wants us to do and then do it for Him (not because other people want us to, but because Jesus wants us to) then our life and actions will truly be both genuine and good.

“Seeking God’s Approval” Bible Verses:

  • Romans 5:8 | God shows His love for us sinners.
  • Romans 3:23 | Every single person has sinned.
  • John 5:24 | Believe in Jesus for forgiveness and life.
  • 1 Corinthians 9:24 | Run to win the prize.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:10 | Rewards in heaven.
  • Joshua 1:8 | Rewards on earth.

“Seeking God’s Approval” Family Time Questions:

• What can happen when we seek the approval of “bad” people?

• What can happen when we seek the approval of “good” people?

• What happens when we seek God’s approval?

• Where can we learn what God says is right and wrong?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for loving me. Please help me to seek you with all my heart. I want to make you proud. In Jesus’ name, amen.
