If you are looking for God, make sure that you look where He can be found! There are many people who go looking for spiritual experiences and end up doing things that God warns us not to do. God says not to talk to the dead (so no seances or Ouija boards or anything like that), He says not to consult fortune tellers or interpret omens (so stay away from horoscopes, zodiacs, and that sort of thing), and He says not to practice witchcraft (Don’t mess with spells or anything with supposed magical or spiritual properties). If you’re looking for something spiritual (which is a good thing to do!) make sure that you don’t go looking anywhere that God doesn’t want you to go. There are no other religions or spiritual disciplines that can offer you any spiritual insight beyond what God has revealed to His people in Scripture. And the only path to God goes through Jesus Christ! Let’s seek God wisely.

Bible Verses:

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:23 | We are body, soul, and spirit.
  • Deuteronomy 18:10-14 | Don’t try to speak to the dead or follow sorcery.
  • Romans 1:20 | God has been made known to everyone through His creation.
  • 2 Timothy 3:16-17 | The Bible is God’s Word.
  • Proverbs 30:5 | Seek Him through His Word.
  • John 14:6 | No one comes to God except through Jesus.

Family Time Questions:

  • Is it good to be interested in spiritual things?
  • Where should you look for spiritual truth?
  • What are some spiritual things that God says to stay away from?
  • Is there any spiritual truth that we can find outside of Christianity?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for reaching out to us through Scripture. Please help me to seek you wisely. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
