It’s always good to be thankful when you receive a gift, even if it’s not exactly what you wanted! When regular people give us a gift we don’t want, we say “thank you” to be polite. But when God gives us something we don’t want, we say “thank you” to show Him that we recognize that He knows what’s best for us. It’s hard to be thankful when things don’t go our way, but, no matter what happens, we can offer God a sacrifice of thankfulness!

Bible Verses:

  • Psalm 50:14-15 | Sacrifice of Thanksgiving
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:18 | God’s Will in Christ
  • Psalm 107:1 | Thanking the Lord
  • Colossians 3:15 | Peace and Gratitude
  • Philippians 4:6-7 | Prayer and Thankfulness

Family Time Questions:

  • Why should we say “thank you” even if we get something we didn’t want?
  • Can you remember a time when something turned out to be a good thing, even if it didn’t seem like it at first?
  • What can we do to be more thankful every day?
  • How can thanking God help us feel better when things are tough?

Prayer:

“Dear God, help us to be thankful for all things, big or small. Teach us to trust You and remember that You always know best. Thank you for loving us and taking care of us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
