Do you ever feel like you’re not very good at worship? Like maybe you should just leave worship to those who are talented musicians? Well, the truth is that God simply loves it when we praise Him, no matter how “good” we are at singing! Even if the people around us aren’t impressed, our praise makes God happy. And, actually, if other people look down on us for praising God, that praise means even more to God than if other people love our singing voice. A long time ago, God’s people used to have to sacrifice animals in order to cleanse themselves from their sins. We don’t have to do that anymore because of what Jesus did for us on the cross (He was the final sacrifice for sin), but we can still offer God sacrifices of different kinds. When we worship God, even if we’re a little embarrassed, we’re offering God a sacrifice of praise!

Bible Verses:

  • Hebrews 13:15 | Sacrifice of praise through Jesus.
  • Psalm 100:1-2 | Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.
  • 2 Samuel 6:14-16 | David danced before the Lord
  • 1 Peter 2:5 | We offer spiritual sacrifices.

Family Time Questions:

  • What do you think “sacrifice of praise” means?
  • Why do you think God likes it when we praise Him?
  • Have you ever felt shy or embarrassed about singing or praising God? How did you handle it?
  • How can we offer sacrifices to God today, even though we don’t have to offer animal sacrifices anymore?
  • What are other ways, aside from singing, that we can praise God?

Prayer:

“Dear God, thank You for loving us just the way we are. Help us to remember that our praise makes You happy, no matter what it sounds like to others. Give us the courage to offer You a sacrifice of praise, even when it’s hard or we’re a little embarrassed. We want to show You how much we love You, not just with our words but with our actions too. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
