Is there such a thing as “righteous anger”? Isn’t it a sin to be angry? Well, actually, it’s not a sin to be mad, it’s all about what you do in your anger. The Bible says, “In your anger do not sin” not “never be angry.”

Anger can be a good thing, but, when you’re angry, it’s important to remember three things:

   1. Don’t let your anger (or any emotion) control you.

Anger can make you foolish. So be sure to get control of yourself before you do something you’ll regret later.

   2. Don’t forget who your real enemy is.

Our battle is not against flesh and blood. No matter how angry someone makes you, they are not your enemy; Satan is.

   3. Remember that you are not God.

It’s not your job to “put people in their place” or punish people for their sins. Vengeance belongs to the Lord.

“Righteous Anger” Bible Verses:

  • Matthew 21:12-13 | The story of Jesus’ anger at the sellers in the temple.
  • Proverbs 16:32 | Don’t let anger control you.
  • Ephesians 6:12 | Remember who your real enemy is.
  • Romans 12:19 | You are not God; He will judge.
  • Ephesians 4:26 | In your anger, do not sin.

“Righteous Anger” Family Time Questions:

 Is anger always a sin?

• Why shouldn’t we let our anger control us?

What are some ways that anger can be good?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your mercy. Help me to control my anger and not let it control me. Help me to not hate and to remember who the real enemy is. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
