Douglas is not very patient, but he wants to be. He often burns himself on his soup or hot cocoa, he despises waiting in line, and he can’t wait to grow up—there’s so much in life we have to wait for! But recently, his impatience really got the best of him. Douglas’ dad often makes breakfast for his family on Saturdays, and one time he was getting ready to make pancakes, but he had to take a quick break before cooking them. Douglas was hungry, so he tried the pancake batter…but as he took a big bite, he learned that PANCAKE BATTER IS NASTY!

God wants us to be patient, both because He wants us to enjoy what we have right now, and because impatience can mess up the good plans God has for our future. Douglas ate yucky pancake batter, and that meant that there was one less good pancake for him to eat! God has a plan for you (and it’s an awesome plan!) and He would love to help you enjoy the wonderful life He has planned for you, one step at a time.

Patience Bible Verses:

  • Psalm 27:14 | Be strong and wait
  • Galatians 5:22-23 | The Fruit of the Spirit
  • Romans 12:12 | Rejoice, be patient, and pray
  • Philippians 4:6 | Be anxious for nothing
  • 2 Peter 3:9| The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise

Patience Family Time Questions:

• Why is it important to be patient?

• Why do you think God doesn’t give us everything all at once?

• Can you think of any examples of things that turn out badly if you’re impatient?

• Can you think of any examples of people from the Bible who had to wait?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for the many blessings in my life. Please help me to be patient and to wait for your perfect timing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
