It’s very easy to blame others for our own sin. We act as though life is like toppling dominos, “You can’t blame me for knocking you down because the guy behind me knocked me down first!” But that’s not how it works at all. We are each responsible for our actions. It’s not OK to be cruel or unkind to others any more than it’s OK for others to be cruel or unkind to you! The Good News is that Jesus loves you in spite of your sin, not because all of the blame for your sin rests on someone else. We can’t pass the blame or pretend that our sin isn’t wrong. Jesus loves you so much that He died for you, and He will forgive your sins, but there is no excuse for sin.

Bible Verses About Making Excuses for Sin:

  • James 4:17 | Sin is doing something God says not to do.
  • 1 John 1:8 | Pretending we have not sinned is wrong.
  • 1 John 1:9 | Accept we’ve done wrong and ask His forgiveness.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:10 | Jesus died so that we can live with Him forever.
  • Ephesians 2:4-5 | God saved us because of His great love for us.

Family Time Questions About Making Excuses for Sin:

• Is it ever OK to sin?

• How can we tell if something is a sin?

• Who was responsible for Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit?

• What is the Good News of Jesus Christ?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for forgiving my sin. Please help me to never make an excuse for sin. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
