On Mother’s Day, we celebrate our moms. And we can also celebrate the godly women that Jesus has placed in our lives! In the Ten Commandments it says to “honor your father and mother” and many times we hear that that means to “obey your father and mother.” And while obedience is part of honoring your parents, it is really more than that. You can obey someone without honoring them (have you ever done what you were told but rolled your eyes, dragged your feet, or pouted about it?), but when we honor our parents, obedience just comes naturally. to honor your parents means to highly value them. To care what they think and how they feel. It’s not just about obedience, it’s about love and respect. We might not always be able to do all the special things we do on Mother’s Day, every day, but we can sure honor our mothers every day!

“Mother’s Day” Bible Verses:

  • Exodus 20:12 | Honor father and mother commandment.
  • Ephesians 6:2 | First commandment with a promise.
  • Proverbs 1:8-9 | Listen to your mother’s teaching.
  • Proverbs 23:25 | Bring joy to your mom.
  • Proverbs 31:28 | Bless your mother.

“Mother’s Day” Family Time Questions:

  • What does it look like to obey someone without honoring them?
  • Why is it important to honor your parents?
  • What are some ways you can show your mom (or other godly women in your life) honor this week?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your love for me and for the godly women you have put in my life. Help me to show them honor, not just on Mother’s Day, but every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
