It’s often the case that people try to read through their whole Bible, but they give up before they’re even done with the first three books of the Bible. Genesis and Exodus are filled with all sorts of interesting stories, and then there’s Leviticus… Leviticus is filled with rules and regulations about the building of the Tabernacle (a special tent where God would dwell with His people), what makes people unclean, how to make sacrifices, and how to celebrate festivals. When Jesus died for us, He was the final sacrifice for sins that anyone would ever need again, and God now lives in the hearts of His people, not the Tabernacle or Temple. That means that many of the rules and regulations in Leviticus don’t apply to us anymore. And even though we don’t make sacrifices and we have no temple besides ourselves, many of the commands still apply to us. And the fine details in the instructions in Leviticus show us that God is the one who decides how He is to be worshiped. We can’t just make up our own god and serve him however we want. God calls us to live according to His will, not ours. There is so much that we can learn from the story of Moses and the Tabernacle.
