We clean our houses so that they aren’t cluttered with garbage and stuff we don’t need, and we should do the same for our heart and mind. We should make room for God! Some other religions teach that you should “empty your mind” but that’s not what God wants for us. He doesn’t want us to have any empty heart or an empty mind or an empty life, He wants us to be filled with Him! The clutter in our homes looks like garbage and old clothes we don’t need anymore. But the clutter in our hearts looks like jealousy, grudges, and resentment. We don’t need those kinds of things taking up space in our hearts, let’s do some spring cleaning!

“Make Room for God” Bible Verses:

  • Romans 15:13 | Be Filled with the love and hope of Jesus.
  • 1 Corinthians 3:16 | We are God’s temple.
  • Romans 6:12-14 | Don’t let sin rule you.
  • Colossians 3:8-10 | Clean house for God.
  • Isaiah 26:3 | Peace comes from trusting God.

“Make Room for God” Family Time Questions:

  • What are the kinds of things that can take up space in our hearts and minds that we don’t need?
  • Why do you think we hang on to the clutter in our hearts that we don’t need?
  • Why might it be important to fill our minds with the love of Jesus instead of just emptying our minds?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for the love and hope that only comes from you. Help me to clear out all the clutter in my heart and mind, so that I can be filled with the love and hope of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
