There are many different definitions of love, but 1 Corinthians 13 tells us exactly what godly love (which is true love) looks like. To love someone means to be patient with them. Our impatience can show us when we are not on the right track and we need to draw closer to God.

Douglas got frustrated when his mom slept in on Mother’s Day because the breakfast he helped make for her got cold. But why would that make him mad? He was upset because he had a plan for how he wanted things to go and he cared more about his plan than he cared about his mom and her needs. To really love someone is to put their wants and needs ahead of your own. Our patience can show others that we love them, and that’s true for God too! When we are patient and wait for God’s plan we can show Him that we trust Him and His perfect timing. Love is so important. So, next time you’re feeling impatient, remember that love is patient and do your best to show godly love. God is so patient with us, let’s be patient with others too!
