Godly love can sometimes mean minding your manners. We can show others that they are important to us by being polite and showing them the respect that they deserve. Love is not rude.

This is kind of a tricky subject because you pretty much have to use your best judgment. There are some situations where it’s might be OK to be a little rude. For example, it might not be unloving to burp in front of your friends. However, if you get in the habit of being rude, you might accidentally end up being rude to someone who wants you to mind your manners! And there are some rude things that we should probably just avoid altogether. A good rule of thumb is to always ask yourself: 1) “How can I show the people around me that they are important to me?” And 2) “What would Jesus think of what I’m doing right now?” If you keep those two things in mind it can really help to make sure that we are always treating people with the love God has called us to. Godly love is not rude!

“Love Is Not Rude” Bible Verses:

  • 1 Corinthians 13:5 | Love is not rude.
  • Ephesians 4:32 | Be kind.
  • 1 Peter 5:5 | Respect your elders.
  • 1 Corinthians 3:16 | We are God’s temple.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:20 | We are ambassadors for Jesus.
  • John 15:12 | Love like Jesus.

“Love Is Not Rude” Family Time Questions:

• Why shouldn’t we be rude to people?

• What are some things that might be rude for some people, but not others?

• What are some things that are rude, and we should probably just avoid altogether?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your love for me. Please help me to do whatever I can to show those around me that they are important to me and to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
