To love someone is to put their needs ahead of your own. That’s a really hard thing to do! Sometimes we get mad at our friends and family when they get good things. That doesn’t make much sense, but a lot of us feel that way at times. Instead, we should be happy about the good things that happen to other people. Godly love does not envy.

To envy someone is to wish that you had what they had. When we are envious or jealous of other people, we’re only focused on ourselves, but God wants us to care for others, not just ourselves. So when something good happens to someone else, we shouldn’t get upset that we didn’t get that thing, we should celebrate with them! If you catch yourself getting made when something good happens to someone else, that’s a good indication that you need to take a step back and remember how God wants us to love. Love does not envy.

“Love Does Not Envy” Bible Verses:

  • 1 Corinthians 13 | What does love look like?
  • 1 Corinthians 13:4 | Love does not envy.
  • Hebrews 13:5 | Instead, be content with what we have.
  • Romans 12:15 | Be happy for others.
  • Philippians 2:3 | Be humble.

“Love Does Not Envy” Family Time Questions:

What does it mean to envy?

What should we do instead of being jealous of our friends?

What are some things in your own life that you are grateful for?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for all you have done for me. Please help me to always be grateful for what I have and to celebrate with others when good things happen to them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
