“Love does not delight in evil” is sometimes translated as “Love does not rejoice in unrighteousness.”   Both mean that we should not celebrate what God says is wrong. But that can be really hard! There are many people who want us to celebrate sin, but doing that would not be real love. We should never be mean about it, but we should also never support what is wrong.

It’s important to remember that we don’t decide what’s right and wrong, God does. We as individuals don’t get to decide and we as a group don’t get to decide. If everyone in the whole world said that something is right that God says is wrong, it’s wrong. God tells us in His Word what we should and should not do. He tells us what is good and what is evil. And celebrating something that is evil might seem like a loving thing to do (who wouldn’t want to be supportive, right?) but it only hurts people in the end. Godly love does not delight in evil.

“Love Does Not Delight In Evil” Bible Verses:

  • Isaiah 5:20 | Only God determines good and evil.
  • John 14:6 | Jesus is truth.
  • Matthew 7:1 | We are not the Judge.
  • Romans 3:23-24| We have all sinned and need Jesus.
  • 1 Corinthians 13:6 | Do not delight in evil.

“Love Does Not Delight In Evil” Family Time Questions:

• Who decides what’s right and wrong?

• How can we love people without supporting what is sinful?

• What should it look like to “not delight in evil”?

• Who’s the judge of the world?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your love for me. Please help me to love others and never celebrate what is evil. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
