Are we supposed to believe everything we hear? Of course not! The world is full of lies and we’re not supposed to believe lies, we’re supposed to believe God. But why does 1 Corinthians 13 say that love ALWAYS trusts, or, love believes ALL things if we’re not supposed to ALWAYS trust or believe ALL things?

Everything that God says is true. And the Bible is God’s Word. That means that if the Bible says, “Love believes all things” (which it does) then love believes all things, period. But, though the rest of what 1 Corinthians 13 says about love can be taken as commands (that is since love is patient, and we are supposed to love, we are supposed to be patient), this is an example where this cannot be a command. One day God will make all things new and, in heaven, there are no lies. So when we get to heaven (where everything will be perfect) we won’t have to doubt anything that anyone says, we can believe all things. However, here on earth, there is only one person we can trust 100% of the time, and that’s God. So, if this passage is a command, it would look like, “Love always trusts God.” He is completely trustworthy. And though it is good to trust our parents and teachers and friends, there are many people that we need to be careful about. Love always trusts (God)!

“Love Always Trusts” Bible Verses:

  • 1 Corinthians 13:7 | Love always trusts.
  • John 14:6 | Jesus is the truth.
  • 1 John 5:19 | The world is full of lies.
  • Revelation 21:27 | There are no lies in heaven.
  • 2 Samuel 22:31 | God is perfect and does not lie.
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 | Always trust in God.

“Love Always Trusts” Family Time Questions:

• Who can we always trust?

• Who can we almost always trust?

• Who should we be careful about trusting?

• When will we be able to always trust everyone?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for being perfectly trustworthy. Please help me to be careful and to always put my trust in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
