There are many things in our life that seem impossible to us. And, for us, there really ARE a lot of impossible things. But nothing is impossible for God. If we want God to open a “door” for us, we should knock! The most important “locked door” is the door to heaven. There’s nothing that we can do in our own power to gain eternal life, It’s only through belief in Jesus Christ. And if you do believe in Jesus, the doors to heaven are opened for you. And though God can open any door He wants, He allows us to keep the door to our hearts locked if we choose to. He’s knocking on the door of your heart, asking to come in. But the choice is up to you. And God won’t open every door for you, some doors He keeps closed. Some opportunities seem good but aren’t as good as what God has planned for you. But you can trust that, if you are walking with God, the right doors will always be opened for you if you simply knock.

Bible Verses:

  • Luke 11:9-10 | Jesus instructs us to knock.
  • Revelation 3:20 | Jesus stands at the door of our hearts and knocks.
  • Jeremiah 29:11 | God has plans for our good, not for evil.
  • Acts 16:26-34 | God can open any literal doors too!
  • 1 Corinthians 16:9 | A door opened for Paul

Family Time Questions:

  • What do you think it means when we say God is knocking on the door of your heart?
  • Can you think of a time when you “knocked” on a door by praying for something?
  • How can we be patient when waiting for God to open a door?
  • Why might God keep some doors closed, even if we really want them to open?

Prayer:

“Dear God, thank You for hearing us when we knock. Help us to trust that You open the right doors at the right time. Teach us to be patient and to seek Your will in all things. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
