If God is the source of your joy, then your joy is invincible! Joy is a word that basically just means happiness, and happiness is a feeling. But there’s a big difference between joy that comes from earthly things and joy that comes from God. Douglas is very happy when he is eating an ice cream cone, but then he’s sad when it’s gone. Some kinds of joy last longer and are stronger than other kinds of joy. For example, Douglas was very happy that he was going to get to see a friend of his who had moved away. It didn’t matter what else happened to him that day (a little kid even bit him on the leg), he was happy because he was going to see his friend. That’s a very strong kind of joy, but it’s not unstoppable. Douglas would have been sad if his friend’s flight had been canceled or anything else that would have kept him from seeing his friend. But if your joy comes from God, then your joy is invincible. Nothing can separate us from God’s love, nothing can take away our joy if we focus on Jesus Christ. So if you are a Christian and you have the Holy Spirit living inside you, then you can have an unstoppable joy!

• What are some examples of things that can spoil our joy?

• Why is our joy unstoppable if our joy comes from God?

Dear God, thank you for your incredible love for me. Please help me to keep my eyes on you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
