On Palm Sunday we celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Jesus rode into Jerusalem riding on a donkey, just as the prophets predicted He, the Messiah, would. The Israelites were so excited about their new king, but Jesus wasn’t exactly what they were expecting, He was so much more. They wanted a king who would conquer their enemies, the Romans, but instead, they got a King who conquered Sin and Death. It can be easy to honor Jesus as our King while we are at church. But very difficult to live our everyday lives as if Jesus is our King. Are you living like Jesus is your King? Or like you are your own king?

Everyone wants things to go the way they want them to go. That seems like a silly thing to say, but it’s true. And it can be really easy to try to make Jesus “fit” into our lives, to try to make Him something other than what He is so that we can still be in charge of our own lives. Jesus is our friend and our Savior, but He’s also our Lord and our God. That means instead of trying to make Jesus fit into our lives, we should make our lives to fit into His perfect plan. Jesus is the King of Kings!

Palm Sunday Bible Verses:

  • Matthew 21:1-11 | The Triumphal Entry
  • Zechariah 9:9 | The Prophecy
  • John 18:37 | Jesus is King

Family Time Questions:

• Why did the Israelites praise Jesus when He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey?

• Why did the Israelites abandon Jesus?

• What are some ways that following Jesus is easy?

• What are some ways that following Jesus is hard?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for sending your Son Jesus to be our King. Help us to honor you as our King and to live for you every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
