On Easter, we celebrate that Jesus died for our sins and then rose again from the dead. Right now Jesus is preparing a place for us in heaven, and one day Jesus will return to make all things new. The thing is, no one knows when that will happen, so we should always be ready! Depending on who you are, when Jesus comes back it will either be a very good surprise or a very bad surprise. Are you ready for Jesus’ return?

If you believe in Jesus, you have eternal life. So you don’t have to be worried that Jesus won’t take you to heaven. But can you imagine Jesus returning to earth to find you doing something you shouldn’t be doing? That would feel terrible! We should live our lives in such a way that God would be proud of us. We don’t want to be ashamed at His coming, but excited! We should wait in joyful expectation for Jesus’ return and live our lives the way He has called us to live. Jesus is coming back for us!

Easter Bible Verses:

  • Matthew 20:18-19 | The plan
  • Mark 16:1-6 | He is risen!
  • Romans 6:8-11 | Jesus conquered death
  • John 14:1-3 | Jesus is preparing a place for us
  • 1 Peter 1:3 | Hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
  • 1 Corinthians 15:20 | The firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep

Family Time Questions:

• Have you ever been surprised by something fun? What was it?

• Have you ever been surprised by something bad? What was it?

• Will Jesus’ return be a good surprise or a bad surprise?

• What can we do to be ready for when Jesus comes back?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for sending your Son Jesus to die for us. And thank you for raising him from the dead and that He will return again someday. Help us to all be ready. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
