Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us. He died on the cross to save us from our sins. And thinking about what Jesus went through for us (and for everyone who believes in Him) can really help us to put things into perspective. In this life, people will mistreat us, they will act unfairly, but if Jesus could even forgive the people who killed him, we can surely forgive the people who are mean to us.

Jesus didn’t die for us because we deserved it, He died for us because He loves us. God is just. That means that what’s right and wrong is very important to Him. But He is also merciful. Instead of giving us the punishment that we deserve (and could never save ourselves from) He chose to take that punishment on Himself, even though He has never done anything wrong. When people treat us badly, it’s often our instinct to want to punish them. But if God can forgive us for what we’ve done, we can forgive others for what they have done. The Good News of Easter is that Jesus died for our sins and then rose again on the third day. He did this even though we didn’t deserve it. And that truth should have a huge impact on how we treat others. Let’s show mercy the way Jesus Christ did for us.

Easter Bible Verses:

  • Luke 23:34 | Jesus Forgave the Men Who Killed Him
  • John 3:16-17 | Jesus Didn’t Come to Condemn the World but to Save It
  • 1 Peter 2:21 | Jesus Set an Example for Us

Family Time Questions:

• Has anyone ever been mean to you?

• How did that make you feel?

• Was anyone ever mean to Jesus?

• Why didn’t Jesus stop the men who killed him?

• How can we follow Jesus’ example?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to save me from my sins. Help me to always remember what you have done for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
