“Hark! the Herald Angels Sing” is a great Christmas hymn, but it has a lot of words that are hard to understand. Join Douglas as he explains some of the trickier words of this classic song and what they mean.

You’ll have to watch the video to see all of Douglas’ explanations, but here are a few of the difficult words and phrases in this song:

• “Hark” – Listen or hear.

• “Herald” – Someone who announces something.

• “Reconciled” – To reconcile means to fix a relationship.

• “Angelic Host” – A large group of angels.

• “Hail” – Praise or worship (Not “Hail” like the ice that falls from the sky!).

• “Veiled in flesh” – To be covered in a body (skin, muscle, bones, etc.)

• “Offspring of a virgin’s womb” – Someone who was born to a woman who has never been with a man (which can only be a miracle!)

This song helps us to praise God for sending us His Son, Jesus. And understanding the words helps us to praise Him even better!

“Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” Bible Verses:

• Luke 2:10 | The angels tell the shepherds the Messiah has been born.
• John 3:16-17 | God sent Jesus to save people from their sin!!
• Mark 16:15 | God wants us to share this good news of Jesus too.
