God told Abram (whom He later renamed Abraham) that He would give him the land of Canaan, that He would make him into a great nation, that He would make his name great, and that all the nations would be blessed through him. God also promised Abraham that his offspring would be as hard to count as the dust of the earth and the stars of the sky. Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. It was pretty hard for him to believe because he had no children and was already very old. But God always keeps His promises. And, through Christ, we can be called Abraham’s children and take part in the blessings promised to Abraham and fulfilled in Jesus.

Bible Verses:

  • Genesis 12-21 – God’s covenant with Abraham
  • Galatians 3:7-9 and Romans 4:16-17 – Children of Abraham

Family Time Questions:

  • What did God promise Abraham?
  • Why was it hard for Abraham to believe?
  • Did God keep His promises?
  • What can we learn from Abraham’s faith?

Prayer:

“Dear God, thank You for Your covenant with Abraham. Please help us to learn from his example and believe in You, even when it’s hard. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
