People may care about your outward appearance, but God cares about your heart. We all understand that it’s what’s on the inside that counts, but few of us live that out. It makes sense to us that if you wrapped a bag of garbage like a Christmas present, it’s still a bag of garbage, or if you crumple up a $20 bill it’s still worth $20, but we still end up judging ourselves and others based on outward appearances.
God doesn’t care what you look like. It doesn’t matter how big or small you are, how cool your clothes are, or what color your skin is, God loves you! And honestly, even people, when it comes right down to it, care more about your heart than your appearance. if you’re friends only like you because of what you look like, you need new friends. We shouldn’t judge ourselves based on what we look like (God certainly doesn’t!) and we definitely shouldn’t judge others based on what they look like. It’s what’s on the inside that counts!

“God Cares About Your Heart” Bible Verses:

  • 1 Samuel 16:7 | God looks at the heart.
  • John 7:24 | Jesus instructs us to not judge by appearances.
  • James 2:1-5 | Treat everyone the same.
  • Psalm 51:10 | God can create a pure heart in each of us.

“God Cares About Your Heart” Family Time Questions:

  • What are some physical things that people seem to really care about?
  • What does God think of these things?
  • What are some ways that you can be beautiful (or handsome!) on the inside?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for making me. Help me to see things the way you do, and to care more about what’s on the inside than what’s on the outside. Create in me a pure heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
