Douglas learns the hard way that what you put into your mind will eventually come out in your attitudes and actions. It’s very important to be careful what you fill your mind with. God wants you to fill your mind with good things, so we should fill our minds with Jesus!

Douglas isn’t allowed to play video games rated “T” for teen or “M” for mature, but his friend wanted him to play an old game with no rating. Douglas quickly realized that he should not be playing this game, but he chose to do it anyway. The game consumed his life and was all he ever thought about. He learned pretty quickly that he couldn’t hide the truth from his mom, and that he needs to be better about guarding his heart.

“Fill Your Mind with Good Things” Bible Verses:

  • Matthew 12:33-35 (also Luke 6:45) | A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him
  • Philippians 4:8 | Think about such things
  • Romans 12:2 | Be transformed by the renewing of your mind
  • Proverbs 4:23 | Guard your heart
  • Psalm 119:11 | Hide God’s word in your heart
  • 1 Corinthians 15:33 | Bad company corrupts good character
  • Colossians 3:1-2 | Set your hearts on things above
  • Psalm 1:1-4 | Like a tree planted by streams of water

Fill Your Mind with Good Things” Family Time Questions:

  • What always eventually happens to the stuff we put in our minds?
  • What sorts of things should we fill our minds with?
  • What sort of things should we never fill our minds with?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your goodness to me. Help me to fill my mind with the good things you want for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
