The sixth commandment says, “do not murder.” But that means a lot more than you might think it does!

This may seem like an easy commandment—not many of us have actually been tempted to murder someone—but Jesus took this command a bit farther. Jesus told a group of people that if you hate your neighbor, you are guilty of this sin. God values human life very much. We are made in His image. We are all incredibly special, and the sixth commandment is saying that, more than just not committing murder, we need to value human life. If we hate our neighbor, we’re not showing that we care for his life. Our words and our actions and our thoughts should all show how much we value the lives of other people—because if God values human life, so should we.

  • 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 | Don’t destroy God’s temple

Dear God, thank you for your love for me and for everyone else. Please help me to treat others the way you want me to treat them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
