God gave animals many cool instincts, whether it’s flying south for the winter or walking and running within the first few minutes of life, there are some pretty cool instincts out there. We have instincts too, but God made people different from animals. We’re made in the image of God, so we can choose to go against our instincts. The Bible says that our natural instincts often lead us to live selfishly and go against what the Spirit of God has called us to do. The Bible says that we should live according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh. And God has given us the power to make the right choice. We don’t have to be slaves to our natural instincts, you and I can have self-control!

“Choose to Do What’s Right” Bible Verses:

  • 1 Corinthians 10:13 | You can do it!
  • Proverbs 25:28 | Having no self-control can be dangerous
  • Romans 8:5-12 | Life Through the Spirit
  • Galatians 5:19-21 | Acts of the Flesh

“Choose to Do What’s Right ” Family Time Questions:

• When is it most difficult to have self-control?

• How can Jesus help us make the right choices?

• Why is it important to live according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your love for me. Please help us to follow you and have self-control. In Jesus’ name, amen.
