We should want to do what is right so much that it hurts. Matthew 5:6 says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Being hungry is pretty unpleasant, and it’s something most of us try to avoid. But Jesus is saying that you should not ignore your hunger for doing what is right. It might be uncomfortable to fail and to miss the mark when it comes to righteousness. But, instead of giving up, we should keep trying, even when it hurts!

“Blessed Are Those Who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness” Bible Verses:

  • Matthew 5:6 | Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.
  • James 4:17 | If we don’t do the things we know we should, that is sin.
  • 2 Corinthians 7:9-10 | Godly sorrow helps us turn away from sin.
  • 2 Timothy 3:16 | Learning God’s word helps us seek righteousness.
  • Psalm 106:3 | Blessed are those who keep doing what is right.

“Blessed Are Those Who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness” Family Time Questions:

• What does “righteousness” mean?

• Have you ever been REALLY hungry? How did it feel?

• Why would Jesus want you to feel that way about doing what is right?

• What are some ways that we can be better at doing what is right?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your goodness. Help me to hunger and thirst for righteousness. Thank you for the example you set for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
