No one likes to be made fun of, but Jesus didn’t say “blessed are those who fit in” He said, “Blessed are the persecuted.” And He said that if we are persecuted because of our faith we should, “rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven.” The choice is always up to you whether you would like to be rewarded by people or by God. If you go along with what everyone else is saying or doing, they may reward you with being nice to you (or not being mean to you) but what are the rewards of people compared to the rewards God has in store for those who stand strong in their faith even in the face of persecution? God’s rewards are eternal, and no pain or reward here on earth can compare to the incredible gifts that God has for you.

Bible Verses About Persecution:

  • Matthew 5:10-12 | Blessed are the persecuted.
  • 2 Timothy 3:12 | Believers living for Jesus will be persecuted.
  • Romans 8:35-37 | Persecution cannot separate us from Jesus’ love.
  • Luke 6:35 | Loving your enemies brings rewards from God.
  • Romans 6:23 | The free gift of God is eternal life.

Family Time Questions About Persecution:

• What does it mean to be persecuted for your faith?

• What are some examples of what persecution could look like?

• What “good” things might happen if you go along with what everyone else is doing instead of standing up for your faith?

• Why are those “good” things not as good as the rewards God has for you?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for your goodness to me. Help me to stand up for what’s right, even when it’s hard. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
