You may have seen a picture of a “biblically accurate angel” online that looked like a monster made of wings and eyes. But is that what the Bible says angels actually look like? Most of the time in the Bible, angels just look like people. Sometimes they are bright and shining, sometimes not. Sometimes they have wings, sometimes not. The image of a creature made of just wings and eyes probably comes from mixing a bunch of different heavenly creatures described in the Bible, some of which were covered with eyes and some of which had many wings. The idea that angels look like people with wings is actually pretty accurate, but we don’t have any evidence in Scripture that they looked like little flying babies, even though we see a lot of that in classical art. And though they often looked like regular people, angels and humans aren’t the same thing, and humans never become angels. If you want to know what angels look like or what they do, learn from your Bible, not from memes on the internet!
Bible Verses:
- Hebrews 13:2 – Some angels look just like regular people
- Ezekiel 1 – Cherubim and wheels within wheels covered in eyes
- Isaiah 6:2-3 – Seraphim
- 1 John 4:1-3 – Test the spirits
Family Time Questions:
- What do angels look like?
- What do angels do?
- Do people become angels?
- Is God an angel?
Prayer:
“Dear God, thank You for angels. Please help us to remember to learn about spiritual creatures in the Bible, not from memes on the internet. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
