Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” If you want God’s presence in your life, it’s as simple as: ask, seek, knock. There are many good things that we don’t have because we don’t ask God for them (and most good things aren’t “things” at all!). God wants you to ask for what you want. He may not give you exactly what you ask for in the way you asked for it, but the Bible says that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him. God’s plan is perfect, but it may not line up with our plan! When we ask God for something, we need to ask with a sense of, “Thy will be done” knowing that God will answer with what’s best. If what you ask for is more of God’s presence in your life, you’ll be sure to have it because He is always what’s best for you!

Bible Verses:

  • Luke 11:9-13 | Jesus instructs us to ask.
  • James 4:2-3 | Many things we lack are due to not asking or asking wrongly.
  • 1 John 5:14-15 | We can be confident when we ask according to God’s will.
  • Luke 22:42  | “not my will, but yours be done.”

Family Time Questions:

  • What kinds of things should we ask God for?
  • Why is it important to ask according to God’s will?
  • Have you ever not received something you asked for? How did you react?
  • How can we trust that God’s answers are always best?

Prayer:

“Dear God, thank You for inviting us to ask You for our needs and desires. Help us to understand Your will and align our requests with it. Teach us to trust that You always answer with our best interests at heart. We want more of Your presence in our lives and trust that You will provide what is best. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
