When you hear the word, “greed” you probably have a picture in your mind of what that looks like. But there are so many different kinds of greed, so many different kinds of covetousness, and so many ways that we can be slaves to money. It’s easy to see it in other people, but very hard to see it in ourselves. Jesus says that we need to be on guard against all kinds of greed. And though there are many different kinds of greed, they all have one thing in common, putting your hope in things. All good things come from God, but we need to not put our hope in what we’ve been given, but in the Giver. Put your hope in Jesus Christ.

Bible Verses:

  • Luke 12:15 – Guard against greed
  • 1 Timothy 6:10 – The love of money
  • Matthew 6:19-21 – Treasure in Heaven
  • Matthew 6:24 – Serving two masters
  • Hebrews 13:5 – Be content

Family Time Questions:

  • What are some different ways that greed can show up in our lives?
  • Why is it sometimes hard to notice greed in ourselves?
  • What does Jesus mean when He says our life isn’t about having lots of stuff?
  • How can we learn to be content with what we have?
  • Why is it important to trust God instead of money?

Prayer:

“Dear God, please help us to be on guard against all kinds of greed. Teach us to find our hope in You and not in things. Thank You for all the blessings You give us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
