God had promised Abraham that his descendants would be a great nation. This was quite the promise because Abraham’s wife, Sarah, was unable to have children. God blessed them with a miracle by giving them a son, Isaac. But then God put Abraham’s faith to the test: He told Abraham to sacrifice his only son. Abraham obeyed, but God stopped him just in time and provided a ram to sacrifice instead. God always keeps His promises. And Abraham knew that, no matter what, God would make everything turn out alright. The story of Abraham and Isaac is an incredible example of faith in God. Let’s have faith like Abraham.
Bible Verses:
- Genesis 22:1-19 – God tests Abraham
- Hebrews 11:17-19 – Abraham figured God would resurrect Isaac
Family Time Questions:
- What did God promise Abraham?
- What did Abraham do to show God that he trusted Him?
- How can we show God that we trust Him?
- How is this story like the story of Jesus’ sacrifice for us?
Prayer:
“Dear God, thank You for loving us and giving us Your Son, Jesus. Please help us to follow Abraham’s example and put our trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
