There is power in prayer. God hears you and He loves you and there’s nothing that is too big or too small for Him to handle. That doesn’t mean that God is some sort of vending machine. We should pray with confidence and in full submission to God and His perfect plan.
Some have said that “prayer doesn’t work”, and, depending on what you mean by that, it might be true. If you think that God has to do whatever you tell Him to do when you pray, you’re very mistaken. God is not a genie in a bottle who is required to give you what you want. God is God. He’s the Lord of All and He has a plan for everything. There will be times when your prayers are not answered in the way that you want them to be. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t pray with boldness. There’s a “sweet spot” that includes both being both perfectly confident that God can and will answer your prayers and perfectly submissive to His perfect plan. Jesus gave us a great example of this when He asked God to spare Him the pain of the cross by ending His prayer with, “not my will, but Yours, be done.”

- Luke 22:42 | Jesus prays for God’s will above His own.

- James 5:16 | There is power in prayer.
Family Time Questions:
• Does God hear you when you pray?
• What are some examples of why He might not answer our prayers the way we’d like?
• What does it mean to pray in submission and with confidence?
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for always hearing my prayers. Help me to pray with boldness and in submission to your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
