“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” That’s probably a verse you’ve heard before; but what does it mean? It’s not that we should be afraid of God like He’s some sort of boogeyman, but we should show Him the respect He deserves. You’re probably not afraid of your friends, but when you make decisions in your life you are probably concerned (or afraid) of what your friends might think. We should have “the fear of the Lord” and not “the fear of the friend.”
Bible Verses About the Fear of the Lord:
- Psalm 111:10 | The fear of the Lord
- Proverbs 14:26 | The fear of the Lord brings confidence
- Psalm 19:9 | The fear of the Lord is good
- Job 28:28 | The fear of the Lord is wisdom
Family Time Questions About the Fear of the Lord:
• Is God scary?
• What does it mean to fear the Lord?
• Why would fearing God help us to make wise choices?
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for your goodness and your amazing love for me. Help me to honor you and to fear you in a healthy way. Help me to show you the respect you deserve. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
