There’s a word we use in church called “stewardship.” What does stewardship mean? A steward is someone who takes care of something that doesn’t belong to them. We are supposed to be good stewards of everything God has given us, including our money. Douglas learned that being a good steward means doing these three things with our money:
1 – Recognizing that it’s all His. We do this by using our money to make the world a better place through giving it to the church, missions, or the poor.
2 – Being responsible with our money. Not wasting it, saving it, and using it to make more money are all great ways to be responsible with our money.
3 – God wants us to use our money for our own enjoyment, too! God gave us what He did for us to use; we should first give back and save up, but then it’s OK to spend a little on ourselves.
When we are good stewards with our money, we honor God and also get to enjoy it the way He intended!
“Stewardship” Bible Verses:
- 2 Corinthians 9:7 | God loves a cheerful giver
- Luke 12:15 | Watch out for greed
- Proverbs 23:4-5 | Money doesn’t last
- Ecclesiastes 5:10 | If you love money you’ll never have enough
- Proverbs 21:20 | Don’t be foolish with your money
- 1 Timothy 6:17-19 | Don’t put your hope in money
- Matthew 6:21 | Where your heart is, there will your treasure be
“Stewardship” Family Time Questions:
• What are some things God wants us to do with our money?
• What are some things God doesn’t want us to do with our money?
• Why is it so important to be a good steward of what God has given us?
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for the many blessings in my life. Please help me to be a good steward of all that you’ve given me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
